Johnson County Mental Health is partnering with USD 512 (Shawnee Mission School District) in an innovative pilot program of a school-based Mental Health Intervention Team Clinician (MHIT). The MHIT Clinician will provide interventions, assessments and follow-up for individuals who are experiencing a behavioral health episode or crisis while at school. This position works as a member of JCMHC's Children & Family Services Division but provides services and works in collaboration with USD 512. This position will be an on-call position working between 16-20 hours per week, so flexibility will be needed to respond as needed by the school district. the schedule may include some meetings or trainings outside their schedule, so flexibility is necessary. This position will remain open until filled.

Job Description

The primary responsibilities for this position include:

    Responding to behavioral health crises within the school district in person, virtual, and by phone. Conducts comprehensive clinical assessments to determine appropriate level of care; assesses individual risk for suicide and other safety related concerns; determines the need for medication evaluation and referral; interprets and communicates relevant information to individuals, families, and other stakeholders.
  • Develops intervention plans to address the clinical needs of individuals; collaborates with other community agencies to advocate and partner for individuals' needs; collaborates with other providers in the development, implementation, and review of intervention plans.
  • Conducts comprehensive clinical assessments as a part of the intake and diagnostic process and identifies individual services/needs and diagnoses; Provides brief psychotherapy and other clinical and therapeutic services for individual, group, and/or families when needed.
  • Completes and submits clinical documentation regarding services provided; evaluates and documents individuals' progress according to measurable goals; enters data into a database to track program successes.
  • Facilitates trainings within the district regarding role and mental health related topics; participate in presentations in the community; may be interviewed with the media about their position and the program.
  • Assist in program related activities to include data collection, reports, conferences and relevant trainings.
Job Requirements

Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Addiction Counseling, or other Human Services field and Kansas Behavioral Sciences licensure at the master's level in the area of focus are required. Requires a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Applicants who meet Kansas licensure requirements may be considered if Kansas licensure is obtained by time of an employment offer and licensure is pending confirmation at the time of employment application.

Kansas Behavioral Sciences license at the clinical level and one year of experience in the area of focus is preferred.

Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.
