The Digital Storyteller & Content Creator helps us create compelling and engaging content that is tailored for and resonates with various prospective student audiences. As a skilled storyteller, you will be responsible for crafting narratives that bring our story to life across various digital platforms - from gathering stories in the field to packaging them for a variety of strategic purposes, in both long- and short-form pieces. You will work closely with our enrollment marketing team to develop content strategies that align with our strategic goals and messaging, and bring a willingness to experiment with fresh approaches and channels. Your ability to create emotionally resonant stories will be key in driving engagement and building the enrollment funnel.

The ideal candidate will have an understanding of social media, content marketing, marketing copywriting trends, and a track record of using purposeful storytelling to drive organizational impact and business results.

Job Description
Storytelling & Copywriting (45%)
  • Manages content development process (stories & copy) for integrated digital marketing campaigns and partners with cross-functional teams to package it for multiple channels
  • Writes both short and long-form pieces for KU website, email, print, advertising and social media for the purposes of elevating our profile with prospective students and facilitating their journey through the enrollment funnel.
  • Translates complex issues into compelling and accessible content.
  • Identifies and develops compelling stories about KU students, faculty, staff, alumni, and degree programs and the success of our institution.
Content Gathering. Editing and Archiving (45%)
  • Identifies opportunities to gather content from the field in support of our editorial content strategy.
  • Paired with a photographer or videographer when possible (or generating photos and video on their own), gathers stories and content on and off campus that bring our university to life and accomplishes pre-determined marketing goals.
  • Delivers packaged content and stories for pre-determined marketing tactics.
  • Create and manage a story-gathering process and strategy across all KU units and departments.
  • Performs general editorial and writing to help enhance KU website with current, relevant, and engaging stories for key target audiences and to support key performance indicators for digital engagement.
  • Collaborates with digital marketers to optimize and produce stories and content to enhance KU website for the purposes of increasing online subscribers, boosting online engagement, and recruiting new KU students.
  • Collaborating with digital marketers to create, manage, and update the KU Enrollment Marketing content calendar and strategy.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and deliverables are of high quality.
Other duties as assigned (10%)
  • Continuously seek out new and innovative ways to tell the company's story through digital channels.
Required Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in related field required - which could include English, journalism, marketing or communications.
  2. One year of related professional experience, which could include writing and producing digital and print content for a range of target audiences.
  3. Experience with blog management and/or web publishing technologies (Drupal, WordPress, etc.).
  4. Experience with image editing software (PhotoShop).
  5. Project management experience and attention to detail as demonstrated by application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience in higher education.
  2. Experience or an understanding of graphic design software a plus (i.e. Adobe Creative Suite).
  3. Experience and understanding of search engine optimization.
  4. Photography and videography experience.
